The output of DCU's work includes urban audits, policy reviews, viability studies, visioning, city development strategies, conservation for development plans, and special master plans.
Independently or as member of a consortium, DCU has won a number of competitions and awards including the Ho Chi Minh Cho Lon Conservation and Development Plan, the Genoa Port Regeneration Master Plan, the Plan for Beijing Creative Zone, and the World Leadership Award in 2007.
Based in Madrid, DCU has developed a significant international profile with experience in Azerbaijan, Brazil, China, India, Italy, Kenya, Laos, the Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam.
At the centre of DCU's work are the following principles:
Design strategies and their application. Convinced that a strategy is not a piece of paper, DCU connects vision and action through plans and processes that are strategic in their inception and viable in their execution. With competences ranging from diagnosis to blueprints, DCU aims to balance viable strategic horizons and tangible short term actions.
Convergence of ideas adds value. Team work is essential to build a common vision, both for megacities and for small urban areas. Right from the project's inception DCU aims to bring in the views of a wide range of stakeholders, conducting workshops, social mapping sessions and other participatory tools.
Urbanism is about integrating disciplines. DCU's work seeks to integrate a wide range of interrelated disciplines, including strategic planning, urban planning and design, and policy and institutional frameworks. We understand the importance of combining a solid global perspective with a strong sensitivity to the local context
